My name is Vija Randall, and I am an experienced carer who specialises in supporting older people and those living with dementia. Throughout my 15+ years working in the local community I’ve become very familiar with the challenges that people with dementia and their families face. This led me to research different approaches and to complete the Montessori for Dementia training, which transformed my approach to dementia care. I believe that patience, time and specialist knowledge is essential to providing true person-centred care for people with dementia. My focus is on what people ‘Can Do’ and encouraging independence, giving freedom of choice about their daily life and the things that are important to them. Knowing the people I support on a deep level and building strong relationships based on trust and understanding is very important to me. My goal is simple, to make life easier, more meaningful and reassuring for those I care for and their loved ones.
